Senior Analyst, Standards and Measurement, Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy

Position: Senior Analyst, Standards and Measurement

Functional Area:

Organization: Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy

Location: New York, NY

Metro Region:

Overview:

The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy’s (CECP) mission is to lead the business community in raising the level and quality of corporate philanthropy.  Co-founded in 1999 by civic leaders including Academy-Award winning actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and John C. Whitehead, Former Deputy Secretary of State and Co-Chair of Goldman Sachs, the organization has grown to prominence with an invitation-only membership of more than 180 CEOs and chairpersons of Global 500 firms.  CECP advances best practices in corporate philanthropy by: publishing in-depth research; providing closed-door forums for members to discuss emerging trends and implementation strategies; and working with national media outlets to spotlight exceptional corporate philanthropic initiatives.  Members of CECP’s highly-engaged Board of Directors include the current CEOs of Alcoa, Bloomberg, Deloitte, KPMG, Macy’s, McGraw-Hill, PNC Financial Services, Travelers, salesforce.com, and State Farm. CEOs in the CECP membership represent companies including: GE, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, PepsiCo, Pfizer, Target, Dow Chemical, Time Warner, Verizon, Xerox, and Best Buy.  To learn more, please visit: http://www.CorporatePhilanthropy.org

Position:

CECP is seeking an inquisitive and dynamic Senior Analyst to support the global expansion of the Corporate Giving Standard (CGS) measurement initiative, the industry’s leading online philanthropy benchmarking and reporting system. Implemented in 2001 to provide companies with a tool to measure and contextualize their charitable contributions, participation in the initiative has grown to include more than 170 companies that collectively account for more than 40% of reported corporate giving in the United States.  Due to the lack of international consensus on what is considered philanthropy, CECP will utilize its decade of experience in valuing, reporting, and analyzing corporate giving to develop a framework to measure corporate contributions on a global scale, ensuring meaningful and reliable quantitative benchmarking across countries and economic contexts.

A newly created position reporting to the Manager of Standards and Measurement, the Senior Analyst will become a corporate philanthropy valuation expert and build relationships with the world’s leading corporate giving professionals.  To directly support CECP’s mission, the Senior Analyst will help companies make the case for increasing the level and quality of their giving programs by identifying the relevant story in the data and providing ongoing training and support relating to valuation and reporting. As his/her familiarity with CECP and the field of corporate philanthropy grows, the Senior Analyst will play an increasingly strategic role in sustaining the global expansion efforts and will be a critical driver in advancing the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Become an expert on the legal, political, and social context of global corporate giving.
  • Serve as a key resource for CECP’s prominent membership of giving professionals as they work to submit their latest giving data to CECP for in-depth analysis and quantitative benchmarking.
  •
  • Support companies as they utilize the corporate giving data to further enhance their programs. Create customized quantitative analyses and tailored presentations to feature a company’s financial contributions alongside the broader industry or peer company trends.
  • Develop, track and report on relevant metrics to quantify and qualify impact of the measurement initiative and further demonstrate the benefits of participation.
  • Contribute to CECP’s external communications relating to global measurement.
  •
  • Cultivate relationships with global partner organizations and research best practices associated with global reporting initiatives. Identify opportunities for collaboration where appropriate.
  • Work closely with external partners to advance the valuation guidance, system technology, and promotion of the global measurement framework.
  • Identify new global prospects for the CGS measurement initiative, build relationships with global corporate philanthropy teams, and demonstrate how participation in the measurement initiative will result in both meaningful and actionable data to inform corporate giving strategy.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years experience in roles requiring significant data analysis, outstanding analytical acumen, and the ability to translate complex data into compelling and relevant stories. Basic knowledge of statistics or academic coursework in mathematics preferred.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to quickly learn new software. Experience with software implementation projects a plus.
  • Interest and experience in global initiatives; knowledge of foreign language(s) preferred.
  • Experience in developing and managing client relationships.
  • Commitment to excellence and accuracy, with an ability to manage multiple and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing to team projects as appropriate.
  • Sense of humor and the humility to regularly incorporate the feedback of others into work processes.
  • Interest in CECP’s mission; knowledge of key issues in corporate philanthropy preferred.
  • Tact and poise suitable for working with senior corporate executives, coupled with a roll-up-your-sleeves, solutions-oriented attitude fitting a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit organization.
  • Interest in growing with CECP over time, with continually-increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy.
  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree in international affairs, policy, business law, tax or accounting, preferred.
