Leveraging Investments in Creativity is a 10-year initiative to improve artists’ ability to make work, build social capital and contribute to democratic values. LINC builds on recent research by the Urban Institute (http://www.usartistreport.org) that identifies more than 5,000 programs and services for artists but points to the need for new efforts that:
• Expand financial supports for artists’ work;
• Improve artists’ access to essential material supports such as live-work space and insurance; and
• Bolster knowledge, collaborations, and public policies that affect the work of artists and their contributions to communities.
Funded in 2004, LINC seeks to assist the people, organizations, and communities already at work in supporting artists, and to address needs not being served. Efforts include funding community-wide strategies to improve conditions for artists; building online information concerning live-work spaces and health insurance for artists; and working with field leaders to advance knowledge and best practices.
Position:
LINC is seeking an entrepreneurial and results-oriented Program Manager to manage workflow related to grantmaking, convening, and research/documentation across the organization’s program with a particular focus on the Creative Communities and Artography programs. This includes providing written materials concerning LINC’s programs for print, online and internal publishing and reporting. This position will also plan, coordinate and execute conferences and convenings of various stakeholders including the LINC team, program partners, research subgroups, technical assistance providers and the Advisory group. In addition, the position manages development activities to ensure completion of applications and reports across LINC’s programs. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Program Manager works directly with the other staff and a diversity of community partners to drive program initiatives forward and successfully share information and best practices across constituencies.
Responsibilities:
• Execute LINC’s grantmaking in specific program areas
• Assist with the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of the grant program – including grantee convening, supplementary guideline development, application review processes, and grants management, including budgeting, contracts, payment schedules and disbursements and reporting
• Review grant applications and supporting documentation, identify and engage field experts for review, evaluate recommendations
• Design and implement the delivery of grant action forms, payment documents, modifications and grant notification letters with administrative support from the program team
• Supervise the coordination of grantees, program, and support staff with grant information and queries
• Coordinate with external services to complete reports and proposals related to LINC general operating support
• Manage conferences and convenings
• Create agendas, research potential participants, presenters and guest speakers and execute fully on all aspects of conference design and structure
• Provide support to external consultants and field related experts engaged by LINC, including but not limited to evaluation services, documentation teams, and researchers
• Coordinate with support team to secure appropriate travel logistics, participant honoraria and reimbursements
• Coordinate with support team to design and/or confirm meeting materials and logistics
• Provide travel support to LINC staff, consultants, and grantees
• Execute learning community activities
• Lead assessment and documentation of funded projects for internal use and public release, including web publishing
• Manage external consultants and field related experts engaged by LINC to build the information resources and to enhance the documentation of local and national practices revealed through these programs
• Coordine communications and press support, working with a consulting PR firm for local and national activities
• Coordine documentation and evaluation/assessment teams
• Identify story ideas and publishing opportunities and edit or write stories, articles and reports for publication online and in print
Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of management experience in a nonprofit setting with experience managing a budget and generating financial reports related to program activities; experience with the grantmaking process a plus
• Passion for the work of LINC, with specific knowledge of community development goals, processes, and players highly preferred
• Demonstrated success building community-based partnerships in diverse settings (urban, rural, multi-site) and building programs that champion diversity and inclusion as a core value
• Experience planning and executing conferences and large meetings a plus
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to a variety of audience
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines
• A self-aware leader who operates with the highest levels of integrity and knows how to treat all members of a community with respect, placing high value on community process, diversity and inclusion, and creativity
• Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; knowledge of and experience working in a Web 2.0 environment
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, with an advanced degree preferred
