Hunt Alternatives Fund advances innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at local, national and global levels. Since its founding in 1981, the Fund has contributed nearly $90 million to social change through a blend of grant making and operating programs. Today, the Fund operates out of Cambridge, Massachusetts and is focused on inspiring women to political leadership, supporting leaders of social movements across the country, advocating for the full inclusion of all stakeholders in peace and security processes around the world, combating the demand for modern-day slavery, and strengthening youth arts organizations in Eastern Massachusetts.
Chaired by Ambassador Swanee Hunt and co-chaired by Kerry Healey, the Political Parity Project is a nonpartisan initiative to dramatically increase the number of women in high-level political offices, from the state house to the White House. The Project is working with a diverse group of individuals, organizations, and academic institutions to develop and share best practices for achieving political parity, to share information and resources among those working to elect women, and to create a sense of inspiration and urgency for achieving our goal. Position:
Hunt Alternatives Fund is currently seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and flexible Program Director to shape and lead the initiative under the broad strategic guidance of the Chair and Co-Chair. Working closely with senior leadership, the Program Director will contribute to the vision for the project and be responsible for creating a detailed implementation plan designed to achieve project goals through the creation of partnerships, fundraising and communications. This position will manage an internal team and work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders nationally. This position is an exciting opportunity for a skilled, tactical professional with a strong interest in politics, to carry out the goals of the Political Parity Project and in the process, make a significant contribution to lasting social change.
Responsibilities:
Project development (50%)
- Help refine overall vision, strategy, and structure of the project
- Develop and manage the implementation of a implementation plan, including fundraising and communications strategy (with an emphasis on messaging, branding and positioning)
- Liaise with organizations, collaborators, institutions, and individuals working toward increasing the political leadership of women at the highest levels
- Develop procedures, benchmarks, and processes to evaluate the project
Fundraising (25%)
- Identify and cultivate sources of external support, including foundations and individuals, to augment budget
- Work with staff to identify funding sources, create proposals and case statements and solicit major gifts
- Work with the Chair of Hunt Alternatives Fund to facilitate donor cultivation and stewardship
Management (25%)
- Manage and develop staff of 2-4 and annual budget of approximately $1 million
- Identify and manage consultants as needed
Foundation work
- Upon request, provide input regarding the strategic direction of the other foundation programs
- Participate in bi-annual board meetings, board committee meetings, and senior management meetings
Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of experience in a senior leadership role, designing, implementing, and managing programs
- Proven ability to represent a program or organization and interact with high-level political, nonprofit and corporate leaders on a national scale Significant knowledge of US political systems both locally and nationally
- Substantial fundraising and communications experience
- Success at working with diverse organizations and institutions
- Experience in building broad-based organizations or coalitions
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities change rapidly
- High energy, enthusiasm, mature judgment and flexibility
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills; strong team player; superior writing skills a must
- Technological savvy and the ability to navigate all Microsoft Office applications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred
