Position:

First Place for Youth is seeking a highly accountable individual that relentlessly strives for excellence to serve as the Managing Director of Programs for our nationally acclaimed organization dedicated to providing housing and comprehensive services to youth transitioning out of foster care in the state of California.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Managing Director will lead, design, and manage the My First Place programs in alignment with our core model and Theory of Change and the highest quality standards First Place aspires to.  The Managing Director must have significant program leadership experience, a track record of successfully managing programs and developing staff, strong communication and relationship management skills, and a demonstrated strategic and analytical capacity.  The Managing Director will supervise a team of high level program managers in Northern and Southern California and ensure programmatic outcomes are developed, closely monitored, and executed on. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the operational plan and program implementation for My First Place housing program and the First Steps Center throughout the Bay Area and Los Angeles.
• In accordance with First Place for Youth’s model, set programmatic benchmarks and evaluate each program’s progress against aggressive goals
• Create and manage partnerships with a diverse array of external stakeholders including peer organizations, government officials and schools
• Manage a team of 8 high-level, experienced managers charged with front-line program management ensuring each staff member successfully meets organizational and professional goals
• Lead the ongoing innovation of both strategy and process by identifying key findings that can inform long-term program planning and development

Qualifications:

• Significant experience as a senior leader in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial nonprofit environment
• A track record of success in managing multiple, large scale programs, combining tactical, hands on experience and high-level strategic oversight
• Demonstrated success managing strategic and operational planning, as well as organizational development, and performance management and measurement
• Experience managing staff and the ability to facilitate collaboration and accountability to outcomes between multiple programs or projects
• Exceptional relationship building skills and experience inspiring support from diverse constituent groups, from community members to high-level funders
• Strong analytic skills; able to make strategic and tactical decisions through data-driven decision making
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to high standards of excellence
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred
