Position:
iMentor is currently seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial professional to serve as its first Director of Evaluation and Research. A new position created to support the organization’s significant growth, the Director of Evaluation and Research will lead the creation and execution of a coordinated and comprehensive strategy for measuring the impact of iMentor’s programs. This important role will work with all departments and the senior leadership team to identify key areas for evaluation and implement appropriate systems and strategies. The Director of Evaluation and Research will translate findings into concrete recommendations for program improvement and will share findings with a public audience, as appropriate. Working collaboratively with staff across the organization, this role provides an exciting opportunity for someone with a deep background in research and evaluation and strong analytic skills to contribute to the continued growth and success of iMentor.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, direct, and manage all learning and assessment processes aligned with iMentor’s strategies to track and report progress on meeting iMentor’s goals and objectives
- Work closely with Chief Program Officer to build on existing evaluation tools to create a strategic evaluation plan that measures progress and success against key metrics for both internal program improvement purposes as well as for external reporting purposes
- Oversee the use of evaluation as a tool in accomplishing program/project objectives and ensure the effective dissemination of findings; ensure that data is being collected accurately, analyzed appropriately, and adapted as needed
- Independently or with external vendors, design and implement evaluation tools to support the strategic evaluation plan, including both quantitative and qualitative data as appropriate
- Participate in key conversations to determine appropriate metrics and benchmarks for organizational success
- Personally manage a portfolio of strategic evaluations, working closely with the program staff to assure that the evaluations provide quality, useful, and timely information
- Centralize all current tools and practices for measuring impact to ensure consistent, high quality data collection and analysis
- Work with external stakeholders, including funders and education reform partners, in order to assure best practices and transparency
- Work with Chief Program Officer and senior leadership team to effectively communicate results both internally and externally
- Oversee iMentor’s publications, subscriptions, and research resources and their associated budgets
Qualifications:
- Experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a strong focus on metrics and data-driven decision making
- At least 5 years of successful experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, tool design and validation
- Outstanding analytical ability, with advanced statistical knowledge and facility with database application, research services and statistical packages
- Exceptional project management, prioritization, and planning skills, with demonstrated success producing high-quality deliverables on time and within budget
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, with the ability to operationalize concepts and transform ideas into action as well as apply research findings to ongoing program development
- Ability to exemplify iMentor’s values in all interactions and work products
- A strong belief in the power of mentoring and a passion for leveling the playing field for young people growing up in underserved communities; knowledge of research and current trends in mentoring, education reform, the achievement gap, and adolescent development strongly preferred
- Proven track record in leading successful collaborations across various stakeholder groups
- Experience with research publication strongly preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to ability to engage and inspire others to achieve shared goals
- Strong organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree in policy, statistics, or similar quantitative field preferred
