Acelero Learning is a rapidly growing national organization that serves over 4,000 children annually.  At the forefront of curriculum design for Headstart programs, Acelero Learning is one of the largest Head Start national grant recipients and partners with local communities to provide comprehensive experiences that enrich the lives of young children and their families, ultimately working to close the achievement gap for students nationwide. They are committed to supporting the highest quality programs that support the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth of all children and they strive to meet the needs of a diverse multi-cultural population and to foster successful home, school, and community partnerships.  The Philadelphia/Camden office is one of the rapidly expanding sites that in 2010 became the provider for the North Philadelphia Head Start program.  With plans to expand their Camden presence, this region will serve approximately 1,100 children by 2012. 

Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Education is a dynamic role that is both strategic and operational in nature.  The Director of Education will supervise Education Managers and play a key role in ensuring the successful and high-quality operation of the growing number of classrooms across the Philadelphia and Camden sites.  The Director of Education will also plan and collaborate with both national and local Acelero staff to ensure effective curricular implementation, best practice sharing across sites and the achievement of the outlined outcomes for children of all abilities.  This is a fantastic opportunity for an emerging educational leader to be part of a national team and play a key role in leading a growing organization that has tremendous impact on Head Start families across Philadelphia and Camden.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the program implementation of existing and new local Head Start sites which will include the oversight of curriculum implementation, parental engagement and compliance with general policies and procedures as well as Head Start Performance Standards relating to the education service area.
  • Instruct, train, and manage Lead Classroom teachers and facilitate regular team meetings and participate in case conferences, as necessary, to ensure service coordination across Head Start program.
  • Track child outcomes and program quality assessment results across sites, analyze data and make program development recommendations to leadership team.
  • Integrate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities, consult with and refer teachers to disability specialist on specific implementation strategies for individual children.
  • Actively participate in the Head Start community, including staff meetings, mandated trainings, committee meetings, and other program-wide functions as needed, including some evening activities.
  • Maintain filing, tracking and documentation systems for the early childhood education service area and ensure confidentiality of child and family records.
  • Ensure fiscal management by monitoring budget and managing staff and consultants budget.
  • Uphold the shared values of Acelero Learning and serve as a key member of the Support Center (National Office).

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in the education sector; experience with early childhood education strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in program management, including operational and financial management, evaluation and assessment, and continuous improvement for educational programs
  • Experience leading and inspiring a growing and highly effective team, with a strong commitment to staff development
  • Demonstrated success implementing new programs to engage broad, diverse audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; master’s degree preferred
