Since 1896, The Elizabeth Peabody House (EPH) has supported youth and families in Somerville and the Greater Boston community in reaching their full potential through early childhood education, youth development and enrichment, and family services. Named after Elizabeth Peabody Palmer, a noted philanthropist who devoted her life to the improvement of society, EPH offers a variety of youth programs and provides a continuum of care for families. With a focus on engaging the community through its various programs and services, EPH also connects families to partner organizations who provide additional resources. EPH is currently in the first year of its new strategic plan and is embarking on an exciting period of growth.
Position:
Elizabeth Peabody House is currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to design and execute a comprehensive and sustainable development program for this entrepreneurial and growth-oriented organization. Reporting directly to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Development will design and drive fund development efforts to meet annual operating revenue goals in the range of $1.5M from a variety of sources including major gifts, foundations, corporations, and events. Serving as a member of the leadership team and directly supervising the Resources and Outreach Coordinator, the Director of Development will play a key role in advancing the mission of Elizabeth Peabody House. This position is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, strategic development professional to help take Elizabeth Peabody House to a new level organizationally and in the process, make a significant contribution to lasting social change.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and lead a strategic and sustainable fund development program including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other agency-related solicitations
- Oversee all aspects of individual, foundation and corporate support; raise $500,000 annually to support a $1.5 million dollar budget
- Manage all activities related to ongoing fundraising efforts including implementation of a donor relations and stewardship program and oversight of fund raising events, gift processing, record keeping, and reporting
- Develop, lead and implement comprehensive communications, marketing and public relations strategy that supports Elizabeth Peabody House’s mission and promotes the success of the organization’s programs and initiatives; design and lead production of all major publications and materials
- Develop, lead and manage the Board of Directors fundraising capacity; providing coaching, motivation and training
- Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts
- Manage Resources & Outreach Coordinator (ROC)
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of demonstrated success building and leading the development function in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial nonprofit organization focused on social services and community engagement
- Proven record of successful management of a portfolio of major donors and knowledge of the philanthropic community in Boston and greater Massachusetts
- Substantial experience designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans for all funding streams including individuals, corporate, and foundation giving, with a track record of achieving fundraising targets and growing revenues over time
- Demonstrated experience with prospect research, cultivation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations and foundations
- Passionate commitment to Elizabeth Peabody House’s mission, vision and strategic direction
- Exceptional communication skills; articulate, with demonstrated ability to write effectively and speak persuasively
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing tactically within a resource-constrained environment
- Ability to lead and make decisions independently combined with an ability to work collaboratively
- Capability to thrive in a small, entrepreneurial and growing nonprofit organization
- Understanding of community, nonprofits, civic engagement and community based organizations a plus
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
