The nonprofit Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy’s (CECP) mission is to lead the business community in raising the level and quality of corporate philanthropy. Co-founded in 1999 by civic leaders including Academy-Award winning actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and Former Deputy Secretary of State and Co-Chair of Goldman Sachs John C. Whitehead, the organization has grown to prominence with an invitation-only membership of more than 180 CEOs and chairpersons of Global 500 firms. CECP advances best practices in corporate community engagement by: publishing in-depth thought leadership and research reports; providing forums for members to discuss emerging trends and implementation strategies; and working with national media outlets to spotlight exceptional corporate social engagement initiatives. Position:
CECP is seeking a strategic thinker with exceptional writing and relationship-building skills to employ new and traditional media and marketing tools to inspire and equip its member companies to realize the full potential of their community engagement initiatives, and to advocate for the positive role of corporate involvement in solving societal problems. Reporting to the Director, the Manager, Communications and Marketing will advance the Committee’s reputation among external constituents and promote CECP’s resources to the Committee’s CEO and giving officer communities. The incoming Manager will be responsible for media outreach, content development, and the integrated use of various electronic and print communications channels. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, creative professional to build CECP’s communications strategy and to own the organization’s voice and brand to both its members and to outside constituents.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and track the success of an integrated strategic communications and marketing plan to advance CECP’s credibility and brand; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the organization’s visibility and advocacy messages across key audiences.
- Advance CECP’s position as a resource among industry, national, and international press by proactively cultivating and prioritizing relationships with journalists and industry influencers. Secure and manage pro bono support as needed. Craft timely responses to articles and op-eds.
- Encourage the use of CECP’s offerings among the Committee’s CEO and giving officer members through vibrant, succinct, and customer-focused communications.
- Craft and launch multi-pronged campaigns that support the release of CECP’s thought leadership and research reports, including securing staff speaking opportunities and planning webinars.
- Promote CECP initiatives such as International Corporate Philanthropy Day and the annual Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Awards.
- Generate opportunities to highlight the philanthropic work of CECP member companies.
- Work closely with CEOs to support media interviews and speaking roles at CECP events; liaise with communications teams regarding media interest, availability, and goals.
- Own the content development, writing and editing of all press releases, newsletters, web text, email blasts, advertorials, event highlights videos, and other non-research communications; own the organization’s social media voice.
- Manage CECP’s brand on all print and online materials and oversee branding updates as needed.
- Oversee the design and functionality of CECP’s website (contracting complex updates to vendors), and ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in developing and leading comprehensive communications, media relations, and marketing strategies to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
- Exceptional written, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with CECP’s Board of Directors, CEO members, corporate giving professionals, and staff.
- Experience in advancing an advocacy message, presenting complex ideas clearly and in an engaging manner.
- Commitment to excellence and accuracy, with an ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter with a sense of humor and an entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves approach.
- Experience with website management, email marketing platforms, and social media preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in communications, journalism, or related field preferred.
- Interest in CECP’s mission; knowledge of key issues in corporate philanthropy.
