EdVestors drives change in urban schools through smart, strategic private investment.  The Boston-based nonprofit philanthropic organization seeks to accelerate change in urban schools by identifying and shaping the most effective initiatives, partnering with donors to invest in these efforts, and supporting project leaders with hands-on expertise.  Operating as an intermediary, EdVestors is both a grantmaking and school change organization, occupying a unique position at the intersection of philanthropy and school improvement. Since its launch in 2002 by a group of philanthropists and business leaders, EdVestors has directed more than $10 million to strategic school improvement efforts in Boston.

Position:

EdVestors seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Chief Development Officer and lead all aspects of development, marketing and communications for this fast-paced entrepreneurial organization.  Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director and serving as a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Development Officer will play a key role in supporting the organization’s next phase of growth by implementing a strategic fundraising plan targeted at increasing individual, foundation, corporate and government giving.  Leading a two-person Development team and working closely with part-time and contract support, the Chief Development Officer will highly leverage the ED and Board of Directors This is a fantastic opportunity for a savvy development professional to make a significant impact on a growing organization that is accelerating improvement in urban schools. 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement a strategic fundraising plan that will guide the organization to meet fundraising goals, maximizing opportunities around foundation, corporate, and individual donors
  • Research, identify and investigate new opportunities for funding from a wide variety of philanthropic, and individual sources to expand the EdVestors donor base
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of donor relationships by building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective funders
  • Leverage the time spent by the Executive Director and other organizational leaders on high-impact fundraising activities
  • Actively cultivate and manage Board members, overseeing the Board Development Committee and engaging Board members in playing an active role in fundraising
  • Design and execute a comprehensive strategic communications and marketing strategy to support fundraising efforts
  • Oversee the preparation of high-quality materials, proposals, and reports required to support ongoing fundraising activities
  • Manage the Development and Communications Coordinator and oversee all activities related to ongoing fundraising efforts including oversight of fund raising events, gift processing, record keeping, and reporting

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated success building and leading a development function in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial nonprofit organization
  • Passion for urban education required
  • Demonstrated ability to identify high-net-worth donors and cultivate relationships leading to substantial commitments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to target a message to a variety of diverse stakeholders
  •  
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans to increase visibility and opportunity for organizations
  • Willingness to function as a key member of a small, fast-paced, and high-functioning team in a collaborative environment
  •  
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
