Teach For America is the national corps of top recent college graduates who commit to teach for at least two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting the nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort.
In the 2009-10 school year, over 7,300 first- and second-year Teach For America corps members will teach in 35 regions across the United States. Since 1990, Teach For America corps members have reached approximately 3 million students. Nearly 17,000 Teach For America alumni are working in education and many other fields, where they continue to advocate for students and families in low-income communities. While only 1 in 10 corps members say they were interested in the teaching profession before joining Teach For America, more than two-thirds of our alumni remain in the field of education.

Position:
As we continue to expand our impact in the Greater Boston area, we are seeking administrative support for the executive director and regional team, enabling the team to move more efficiently and effectively toward reaching its ambitious goals. This individual’s overall responsibility is to provide administrative support, which includes supporting office operations and communications, scheduling meetings with internal and external constituents, contact management, preparing materials for meetings, and participating in a wide range of special projects as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Assistant to the Executive Director (35%)
- Provides administrative support to the executive director, including scheduling meetings and maintaining the ED’s calendar, arranging travel, and processing reimbursements
- Acts as a liaison between Executive Director and external constituents
- Maintains an accurate and up-to-date contact database
- Assumes a proactive role in increasing the efficiency and organization of the executive director
Office Management (20%)
- Maintains the regional calendar and regional databases
- Ensures staff members have the appropriate materials (computer, telephone, office procedures, office supplies, etc.) to operate
- Acts as a liaison to building management, local vendors, and Teach For America’s national support teams
- Leads office’s green initiative by facilitating recycling pick-ups and developing new green systems
- Orders and organizes office supplies and materials
- Develops systems to keep office in working condition
- Nurtures office culture by creating office-wide events and activities
Operations (15%)
- Provides operational and logistics support to the program team, including assisting with corps member professional development events, the holiday and end of year events
- Coordinates corps member and staff travel logistics
- Facilitates all Americorps processing including exiting and entering corps members
Finance (15%)
- Tracks regional budget
- Ensures effective execution of paying bills, managing and allocating corporate card expenses, overseeing staff reimbursements, and making recommendations for fiscal changes
Communication (15%)
- Serves as primary contact for office and ensures quality customer service among all constituents
- Maintains our corps-wide site, TFANet, and facilitates training and promotion to regional corps members and staff
- Coordinates email blasts and written communication to corps members and staff
Qualifications:
Candidate Profile and Experience Prerequisites
Education and Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Prior administrative experience is preferred

- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, juggling several projects at once
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- Strong customer service ethic
- Strong written and outstanding interpersonal communication skills

Technical Skills
- Ability to maintain and update databases
- High-level of proficiency with MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel highly preferred
