Overview: | Project HEALTH is a rapidly-growing national nonprofit that works to break the link between poverty and poor health. At each of our six urban sites, we mobilize college students to provide sustained public health interventions in partnership with medical centers, universities, and community organizations. Project HEALTH’s flagship program, the clinic-based Family Help Desk, draws upon the creative energy of student volunteers to connect families with community resources critical to health outcomes. In New York City, Project HEALTH reaches over 450 families annually through programs at Harlem Hospital Center and Bellevue Hospital staffed by volunteers from Columbia University and New York University respectively.

Position: | Project HEALTH is seeking an entrepreneurial, passionate, and mission-driven professional to lead all aspects of program delivery and management as the New York site prepares for substantial expansion. In this position, the Executive Director will oversee Project HEALTH’s existing local operations and will drive the continued growth of high-quality program services, fundraising, and partnership development to realize a long-term vision for Project HEALTH in New York.

Responsibilities: | Program Oversight
- Manage and develop quality public health programs consistent with the Project HEALTH model, including identifying opportunities to expand the scope of program operations
- Oversee efforts to recruit and retain student volunteers committed to the philosophy, goals and objectives of these programs
- Support Project HEALTH’s staff and volunteer leaders in goal-setting, strategic planning, and program delivery
- Implement evaluation tools to measure program performance and collaborate with local and national stakeholders to determine data-driven program improvement strategies
- Prepare annual site operating budget, manage effectively within this budget, and work with staff and accountants to ensure timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting
Resource Development
- Raise funds to support site operations and growth by identifying and securing local individual, foundation, corporate, and government funding, and partner with national staff on local Project HEALTH fundraising initiatives
- Engage current and identify new hospital, university, and community partners to ensure active support for Project HEALTH’s programs and volunteers
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new partnership opportunities in New York and spearhead site growth consistent with Project HEALTH’s values and priorities
Strategic Growth
- Ensure site success with respect to Project HEALTH’s resource development, volunteer leadership, and programmatic metrics; partner with local staff to achieve and measure these targets and share best practices amongst Project HEALTH staff at other sites
- Strategize with national staff and local institutional partners to create a vision for additional human resource capacity on a local level
- Work collaboratively with Project HEALTH’s national staff team to develop and implement organizational strategies and ensure those strategies are responsive to site and local needs

Qualifications: | The New York Executive Director should have a strong interest in addressing the root causes of health disparities, a deep commitment to the development of undergraduates as lifelong leaders for social change, a firm understanding of the links between direct service and advocacy, and the ability to lead the New York site by setting a powerful strategic vision and inspiring a diverse team of stakeholders to realize that vision. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:
- Several years of professional experience in the field of health care, volunteer management, fundraising and/or staff management
- Outstanding leadership and project management skills in an entrepreneurial, dynamic organization; demonstrated success overseeing a complex enterprise with increasing levels of responsibility
- Proven success in developing significant funding for organizations through external partnerships with corporate, foundation or individual funders
- An entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, working both independently and in collaboration with diverse groups of stakeholders
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including strong presentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree in public health, social work, business, public policy or education preferred
