KIPP NYC is the family of all KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) programming in New York City and includes four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP STAR, KIPP AMP, and KIPP Infinity) designed to teach students to develop the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school and college, to be self-sufficient in the competitive world and beyond, and to build a better tomorrow for themselves and all of us.  KIPP NYC also runs a comprehensive advocacy program for alumni titled KIPP to College. 

In a stage of continued growth, KIPP NYC is developing plans to open a high school and four elementary schools in New York City beginning in 2009.  KIPP NYC currently serves over 1,400 KIPP students and alumni, employs over 130 remarkably talented and fun people, and has a combined operating budget of nearly $16 million.

Position:

KIPP NYC is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Human Resources to further develop and oversee the creation, maintenance and continuous improvement of systems and policies that meet the needs of the growing KIPP NYC staff and help to further the mission of the organization. A key member of the Shared Services Team (comprising Development, Operations, Finance, HR and Technology), the Manager of Human Resources will focus on developing effective onboarding and training strategies for new employees and competitive employee benefits and compensation policies.  Reporting to the Managing Director of Finance and HR, this person will work closely with the Director of Recruitment and Talent Development, and supervise a Human Resources Specialist.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as thought leader on the Shared Services Team on all issues related to Human Resources systems and policies
• Manage the systems around payroll administration and employee benefit programs including insurance, worker’s compensation, and pension and retirement; supervise a Human Resources Specialist work collaboratively to answer all staff benefits questions
• Oversee personnel record-keeping and ensure that all employee records are up to date, comprehensive, and accurate; coordinate all teacher credentialing efforts and ensure certification compliance
• Partner with Program Leaders and Superintendent to develop effective onboarding, orientation, and training programs for new employees
• In coordination with the Director of Recruitment and Talent Development, develop and implement organization-wide performance evaluation and professional development policies; work closely with senior leaders within the organization to ensure proper training and execution

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience managing the human resources function in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
• Experience creating policies and procedures around hiring, onboarding, compensation and benefits administration in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; strong written and oral communication skills
• Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high level of responsibility and multiple priorities
• Passionate commitment to KIPP NYC’s mission
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
